Due to economic circumstances beyond our control...How many times have you heard that, in the last two years? Way more than I wan't to acknowledge, I can tell you that. I've been homeless, sheltered, broke and disgusted. I have been living with family for almost two years, and the only things that have kept me going, were one, my son, graduating Valedictorian from high school and then going off to college, (Obama's student aid package), and two, getting another Harley. Yes, it was a used bike, but for what we got it for, you won't hear me complaining. And the "other", still under wraps for the moment, will be the crowning achievement, that made all this sacrifice worthwhile. (That'll be another blog, soon!)
What my heart is into now, is something I've wanted to do for a very long time. Something with MY name on it, something that's been a dream of mine since I started riding motorcycles. I've been on many a long-haul ride, some with folks, some alone. But this, this is something only dreams are made of. Ok, ok, I'll spit it out already.
My dream ride, is a bottom to top east coast run. It could start here in Jacksonville, or points more southerly yet. I don't care. The jumping off point in Florida is irrelevent, but the ride, follows the coastline, all the way up to say, Portland or Bangor, Maine. I've been mapping this ride out, checking on various amenities, and just trying to get feedback from people to see if there is enough interest, to actually pull this thing off.
We all have dreams, cause if you give up your dreams, well basically, you die. And with this terrible economy, and all the hardships we've all been through, it is time to do something for ourselves. Something to look forward to. Something that will put the thrill back in this thing we all call life. I don't know about ya'll, but my heart needs this. It's wonderful to be needed for those everyday things, from your kids, or family, or job. But, really, when was the last time you did something that YOU needed to do? Well, it's time! The economy, she ain't gonna get back to her old self for a while, but I do know that we could "pump" more than a little life into her, if enough people show interest in this ride.
Whether or not this dream comes to the fruition that I would like, it will take place in June 2012. That is my goal date. I've started to set some plans into motion, already. I am preparing to go, even if it means, I'm going alone! But I don't think that I'll be alone. I've garnered interest from many people, as of this posting. If I can get positive response from ya'll here at Cyclefish, I will make this dream a reality! Anyone else out there, into watching dreams come true? \
